Sri Lanka cycle challenge
The Openwork Foundation has been running overseas cycle challenges
since 2000, and 2024 saw the completion of our 22nd multi-day event;
a week-long, 280-mile ride through steep, tropical terrain in one of the
hottest countries in the world, that raised over £70,000.
The 26-strong team included colleagues and partners from across our
network and all corners of the UK, including Paul Mitchener (our Chair
of Trustees). Most days demanded over six hours in the saddle as
temperatures soared as high as 40°C and humidity consistently
hit 85%.
The team rode past tea plantations and lakes, spotting
tuk-tuks, elephants and macaques along the way.
The steep terrain stretched them to their
limit, with one particularly challenging day
presenting them with a 2,000-metre climb.
