Openwork volunteers
transform Matthew’s
Garden
In May volunteers from Openwork, including many
of the Exec Team, gave their time to work on a
project with WellChild, taking part in a remarkable
garden makeover to transform the outdoor space of
17-year-old Matthew. He has faced many challenges
throughout his life, living with down syndrome,
epilepsy and requiring continuous oxygen therapy, as
well as having undergone numerous heart and skull
surgeries. The project aimed to create a space where
he can enjoy spending time outside with his family.
Over two days the volunteers worked together
to create a safe, accessible and sensory-rich
environment designed around his needs. The
funding for the project came from the Openwork
Foundation.
