Adviser fundraising: The
Hitchells tackle the South
Downs Way
“Earlier this year I hatched a cunning plan to ride the
entire 100-mile South Downs Way with my ‘partnersin-crime’ James Hitchell and Louisa Sanders.
It was tough going. Endless hills, unpredictable British
summer weather, and some sore limbs along the
way. But the views were spectacular, the teamwork
was brilliant, and we made it to Eastbourne still
smiling (just about). Most importantly, it was all for an
amazing cause.
I have nominated Alex The Leukodystrophy Charity
for grants from the Foundation twice now, because
I’ve seen first-hand the vital support they offer to
families affected by leukodystrophy, a group of rare
and often misunderstood genetic disorders. Their
work provides practical guidance, emotional support
and much-needed awareness in an area where
families frequently face uncertainty and very limited
resources.
Alex TLC stepped in at a very difficult time for my
family after my own son’s diagnosis and helped us
make sense of a difficult situation, understand our
options and access the right support. The charity
continues to provide essential support to families
in similar situations and campaigns for greater
awareness and early testing of what, in some cases,
can be a treatable condition.”
